What is BKN5

The IARU beacon project provides beacons worldwide on several amateur bands. These transmit in sequence at accurately defined times on a 3 minute cycle. By setting the PC clock to an accurate time source it is possible to know which beacon is transmitting at any given time.

aR5 lets you instantly tune your AR5000 to any one of the beacons.

aR5 provides the ability to set your pc clock from an internet time server to provide the necessary accuracy to monitor these beacons. The active beacon is then identified in either a list or on a map.

If you start SR5 then the active beacon's callsign can be displayed on the SR5 history window (waterfall display) with time stamps. This enables you to log and identify signals well below the level required to move the AR5000 S meter. You can also automatically save these images to file for later review.
